Duke TIP recently teamed up with the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) to develop educational materials that gifted students can access right from home.
We call them Advanced Learning Labs. They’re free, digital worksheets that contain activities tailor-made for gifted kids. Now we’re sharing them with all of our Duke TIP families so that as many students as possible can access them.
Here’s how it works.
Every Advanced Learning Lab worksheet includes activities centered around these topics:
- Logic Puzzles
- Field Studies
- Research Explorations
- Mindfulness (Social and Emotional Care)
- Literacy
- Social Studies
- Mathematics
- Science
Each week, for a total of seven weeks starting May 1, NCDPI is releasing a new Learning Lab designed to serve a specific grade-level cluster. They’ll be broken down like this:
- Kindergarten–1st
- 2nd–3rd
- 4th–5th
- 6th–7th
- 8th–9th
- 10th–12th
Experienced curriculum designers are working to ensure that the Learning Labs are rigorous but also fun and that they encourage students to exercise creativity and critical thinking.
While creating these resources, it was crucial to us to avoid creating barriers for students without internet access. To that end, we’ve built into each Learning Lab at least two topics with activities that can be done without technology.
At Duke TIP, we’ve always been committed to fostering unique and advanced learning opportunities for our students. This collaboration with the NCDPI is just another way for us to extend our commitment to that mission.

This is great stuff, not just a challenge for the kids, but for me as parent to delve into with them.

We believe they key’s answers don’t accommodate the clue particularly about number of properties being equal (even after we tried different definitions of property)
(Also, the picture provided was a British version of the Monopoly board, which did not correlate with the clues)
