Dasan Ahanu knows something about words. In fact, he knows a lot about words.
He is a poet, scholar, and spoken word artist who has released three full-length books of poetry and three spoken word albums. He was also a Nasir Jones Fellow in the Hiphop Archive & Research Institute at Harvard University’s Hutchins Center for African & African American Research. And he has taught English, creative writing, hip hop, and Black culture at Saint Augustine’s University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
We sat down with him to learn about the power of words, how spoken word is different from the written word, and how he writes.
