Keeper of the Lost Cities
by Shannon Messenger
This review was submitted by Hannah Parks, a seventh grader from Mississippi.
I have read all seven books in this series and love them all because of the storyline and characters. Sometimes you just need to escape to a different world and get away from life. In book number one, Sophie Foster finds out that she isn’t a human, and unless you think that she is an elf, you’re wrong. In the world that Shannon Messenger creates, all elves are similar to humans except for a few BIG things…
- Elves should have all blue eyes, except for Sophie, whose genetics were altered to make her special.
- They all have special skills like levitation—among others.
- Most of them (aside from the talentless) have special abilities. EX: empath, vanisher, flasher, etc.
- The “lost cities” (Atlantis, Shangri-La, etc) are real and just hidden by illusions.
- Elves don’t travel by car or bus, but with light. They break down their bodies into particles and get swept away in a beam of tight.
- Although elves can die, they don’t die from old age; only their ears age, turning pointy after several centuries.
There are a few others, but I don’t want to spoil the story.
As the rebellious Neverseen uncover secrets hidden for millennia, you will be amazed at the problems of the elves in the Lost Cities and just how close they come to killing Sophie and her friends.
