In one of our feature articles this month, we posed the following question: “If you were to paint a single picture to represent this strange time in your life, what would you paint?”
We invite you to submit a painting—or drawing, photograph, interpretive dance, musical composition, etc.—illustrating your current frame of mind. Just as we’ve said in another post this month that journaling can be cathartic in times of stress or upheaval, so too can other forms of artistic expression.
Expressing your feelings through art isn’t something that requires amazing skill. Sometimes, the concept is the most important part of an artistic endeavor. In other words, this is a very, very low-stakes exercise.
For instance, Duke TIP’s media coordinator submitted this photograph to illustrate how he’s feeling these days. “I feel a little bit like this nail,” he said. “It’s still serving its purpose, and it’s doing fine in the grand scheme of things, but it’s not quite where it’s supposed to be.”
