We’re proud to showcase the winning illustrations from Duke TIP’s 2018 Writing and Illustration Contest. Each of these illustrations is based on the first-place story, which you can read here.
Third Place — Robert Carleton
Robert “Hob” Carleton is an eleven-year-old fifth grader who resides in Union, Mississippi. He enjoys art and has won local and state art awards. His hobbies include playing chess, the piano, trumpet, and video games. Hob also enjoys playing on local baseball and basketball teams.
Second Place — Emily Chen
Emily Chen is a fifth grader at Buchanan Elementary in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Emily has earned awards from piano and art competitions on national and state levels. Her hobbies also include dance, horseback riding, reading, etc. Emily hopes to be a doctor to help people when she grows up.
First Place — Ian Lee
Ian Lee is a student in fifth grade who lives in Suwanee, Georgia, with his parents and older sister. He is very interested in space and enjoys reading about cosmology. He also plays piano and swims competitively. In his free time, Ian likes to play basketball with his friends.
