“Let’s go to the new playground which has opened up near the mall,” Jane squealed excitedly to her brother, Ben, who nodded his head eagerly.
“Can we stop by the pond? Our class learned about animals in our Science lesson today. I really hope that we can see a frog,” asked Ben. Jane was okay with it.
On the way to the pond, they saw a frog. Its leg was trapped under a flower pot.
“Poor thing! Ben, do try and lift the flower pot. The poor creature could be injured,” Jane said wistfully.
“I cannot. The pot is too heavy!” exclaimed Ben. Just then, a passer-by saw what Ben was trying to do. He offered to help because he thought that the pot was too heavy for Ben.
The children watched the frog intently. Suddenly, blood oozed out from the frog’s leg. Jane’s heart skipped a beat when she saw the poor frog try and move its leg. Ben wrung his hands repeatedly. He was devastated.
Jane had an idea. She suggested that they take the frog to the veterinarian. Knowing that the children were worried about the frog, the helpful passer-by gave them directions to the clinic.
At the clinic, the elderly veterinarian examined the frog’s leg. He then bandaged it. Jane and Ben put the frog inside a fish tank.
With eyes as round as marbles, the frog looked at the children. It croaked softly as if to thank them.
Jane and Ben were on cloud nine because of the fact that the injured frog had received proper medical treatment. They learned to help all living things be it an animal or a person.
