The Abandoned Library
Mylo Gross is a fourth grader in Texas.
There used to be a lot of people here, said the Merriam Webster’s Dictionary.
There was air conditioning here, Said the shelf next to the window in the hot, dry summer.
There used to be traffic around this area, said the broken roof.
The Lawyers came, and left with all of the people, never to be seen again, said the door with no knob.
We waited, and waited, seeing a car or two every hour or so, thinking they would come check us out. We got so excited about it! But they just drove right past us, like we weren’t there, said the comic books.
We gave up about a week ago, feeling hopeless and depressed, said the lamp on the desk.
Then, a car pulled up on me, and it hurt. I heard hundreds of cheers from the library, said the parking lot.
They had come, cleaned the library up, and left, said the one and only LED light.
For once in forever, the closed sign had turned to us, and the open sign out to the open, said the creaky floorboards.
Someone came, said the new computer.
Someone with kids, said the newly installed air conditioning.
21 of them, said the wall.
They all checked out 10 books each, said the desk where the new librarian sat.
A few days later, new books arrived, said the freshly cleaned carpet on the floor.
After six months, all of the books in the library got checked out, said the still-abandoned truck in the parking lot.
The library actually got used after all, said all of the books in unison.
