Summer is coming to an end sooner rather than later. How should you prepare for school to start back? Here’s what our students and parents said:
Ease into the school year
We wait until later in the summer to do our “required” summer reading for school. This gives my daughter’s brain a break from the homework routine at the start of summer and it allows the book’s content to be fresher in her mind for the new school year. Also, it allows her to ease back into the idea of homework before the pressures of school.
As far as waking up is concerned: I (the mom) have started playing nice, relaxing, but peppy music (such as jazz) to coax my daughter out of bed. I play it loudly enough to wake her, but not so much that it bothers her. I just play the jazz channel on my cable TV in the living room near her bedroom.

Last dose of relaxation
We’re usually busy all summer long, traveling here and visiting there. Every year we keep the week before school starts back completely open. It gives us a chance to catch up on sleep, shop for school supplies, and just hang out before a busy school year starts.

Start the year with new friends
I feel excited and bummed going back to school. So a tip for feeling bummed is to find new friends; you can never go wrong with helping out the new kids in class and having them be your friend. That will get your mind off of feeling bummed, and you will be much happier. You can even do this to feel more excited for school even if you are already excited.

Three tips
I am eleven years old and live in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Here are some of my tips for going back to school:
- If you are nervous about your new teachers and friends, always hope for the best.
- If you have any friends who have already experienced what you’re starting, see if they will give you some advice.
- Try your best to be prepared and stay cool.
