Checklists

One of the biggest challenges of planning for college is simply staying on top of everything you need to do to prepare while also keeping up with all of your current school, family and other responsibilities.

These timelines and checklists may help you more efficiently schedule your college prep To Do’s as well as give you an idea of where you may need to do a little catching up. To help you keep track of the things you need to do to build a strong college application, we are providing checklists based on those originally developed by the U.S. government for students. They are divided by grade, so you can track the various preparation and admissions elements depending on where you are in school right now.

Student TIPs

You may want to dedicate a specific Google calendar or day planner to your college prep deadlines and checklists to make sure you don’t miss any steps.

Parent TIPs

You may need to help or teach your child how to manage a variety of tasks and extracurricular activities so that they do not neglect any areas. Gifted students have the ability to remain focused and on-task for a surprisingly long duration and may resist taking a break or bringing the activity or task to a close. Once immersed in an interest, they may also disregard directions, resist switching to another activity, or neglect other responsibilities. They may even respond rudely when they perceive that they have been interrupted in their pursuits. This characteristic can make them extremely high achievers at the task they are focusing on, but may impair their ability to multi-task and accommodate all tasks on a their timelines without reminders.
